So the flared magwell that comes with the XDM-Elite 9mm is way overboard. I tried the option from Pistol gear but the design digs into the bottom part of my palm when gripping the gun because it overlays onto the grip.
Are there any options out there that I can get a less flared magwell that fits flush to the grip like the stock magwell?
Thanks!

If I can't find a magwell that fits nicely I may just go without a magwell.

It's cool looking and that is all I have nice to say about the flared magwell. I have taken mine off and stowed it in the box for someone else if IF I ever get rid of the gun.

I did the same thing. I'm not a competition shooter, so I don't have any real use for a flared magwell.

My issue is also I the 9mm 22 round mags are too long and don't fit very well in the velcro pouches on my plate carrier. The 9mm 20 round mags do fit nicely in the mag pouches, but as you probably know, the 20 round mags when inserted are inset into the flared magwell. Which could be an issue if the magazine were to ever to get jammed.
I'm surprised there are no options for another magwell that is smaller with edges that are flush with the grip.
Does anyone know if the magwell on the 10mm XDM-Elite will fit the 9mm?

I sort of like the look without the magwell. However having a smaller version would be nice for my shorter 20 round mags.

For those wondering, the smaller magwell I tried from Pistol Gear was the, PistolGear “Patriot” Magwell for XD-M 9/40, which I DO NOT recommend. The reason being, the magwell fits over the grip and has a protruding sharp edge that will cause discomfort to your palm. It also just feels annoying having that edge digging into my palm on the grip. I wish they could redesign this magwell for comfort as the size was great.

Springer Precision makes an aluminum magwell for several models of XD & XDM pistols.

I've wanted a compact since they announced the Elite line but just couldn't buy one because my hand doesn't fit with the magwell. Played with several but just can't make myself say "yeah I can live with that". Last weekend ran into a guy at a gun show that had a beat-up one without the magwell and yeah it felt so much better. You can tell by its appearance that something is missing but it does feel better.

It's my understanding that the 9/40 are built on one frame and the 10/45 on another.
By that standard one would think they would be different sized.
I cannot say for certain.

Flared Mag Well removed on my Elite compact 10mm use only extended mags for a perfect fit to my large hand, looks great, doesn’t look like there’s something missing.

Very nice how that design fits so nicely.

I ran my 9mm version this way for a four-day weekend trip and it printed, so I went back to the shorter magazine. A perfect grip would have compromised between the two, maybe a 16-round 9mm version.

A true conundrum.

The XDM elite 9 mm compact holds 15 rounds in the magazine plus one in the chamber. I believe this would be the answer to your question. I have the XDM elite compact in both the 10 mm and 9 mm. I got the 10 first, I liked it so much that I went back and got the 9 mm. Magazines are listed to hold 14 rounds but they actually hold 15

Really, I could barely get 14 in with my maglula. Without it, forget it.

Running 200+ rounds through the firearm eventually loosens up the mag. It's important to consider reliability vs compacity. For instance, never putting more than 27 to 29 rounds in a 30 round mag. Jamming out the spring in your magazines could compromise the function of the mag when you need it. I rarely carry a max out magazine in any of my firearms. I have some friends that were in Afghanistan who never maxed out their mags during deployment for fear of this… This may be why Springfield always numbers their mags one round shorter than the actual compacity. At least in the newer XD M Elite models?

Does anyone know if the short magwell on the XD-M® ELITE 4.5″ 9MM HANDGUN will fit the XD-M® ELITE 4.5″ OSP™ THREADED 9MM HANDGUN?
The shorter magwell would be perfect instead of the flared one. if it is compatible, how would I go about ordering one?

The flared magwell are different sizes on the 9 vs 10mm. I've been pondering taking off the flare, mainly because I use them for CC.

If I was CC I would def take off the big magwell. I have a 9mm Hellcat I use for CC appendix carry and have a hard time sometimes not printing.
