Thinnest Buildings In The World: Check These Weird Skyscrapers | New York’s Steinway Tower To Central Park Tower (2024)

Thinnest Skyscrapers In The World: Tallest to most creative and shortest to the widest, the world surely has all kinds of buildings! You name it, and chances are there that the category will have one, which will effortlessly flaunt the power of architecture and design. And obviously, the credit goes to the talented designers, who mostly carry the potential to turn the ‘impossible’ into ‘possible’.

A huge example of the same is some of the thinnest buildings in the world. Yes, as risky and movie-like as it sounds, the world does have quite a number of skyscrapers that ended up on the list of being ‘pencil thin’ (a fun world play if you ask us!). So for today, we thought to take a look at these very buildings. The list was compiled by ‘thenationalnews’.

If you have a fear of heights, then this building is surely not for you, especially in the windy weather. Yes, the slimmest building in the world is in the US' New York; Steinway Tower. It is also famously known by the name of 111 West 57th Luxury Condominiums and looks pretty much like a pillar, if it was in a city of giants. It is also reportedly the tallest in the country, as it has 84 floors. With a surprising 24:1 height-to-width ratio, the building can be quite scary during the windy weather, as its top levels reportedly move with the winds. The building was designed by Shop Architects.

15 Toronto Street

Coming to the next pencil tower, we have Canada’s 15 Toronto Street. The building is a redesign of the original tower, which only had 10 floors until the 1960s. However, the building is now reportedly a 54-floor tower that was designed by BDP, a UK architecture studio’s Canadian branch. The building is reportedly the second-slimmest building in the world. It is reportedly a 209,450-square-foot (19,459-square-metre) tower that will offer residential and office units, as per ‘Dezeen’.

The Central Park Tower was designed by the Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture and is also reportedly the Western Hemisphere’s second tallest building. It is also reportedly the tallest residential building. The 131-floor building was opened in 2020 and also had an estimated cost of reportedly USD 3B.

Phoenix Apartments

The next slimmest tower in the world is the Phoenix Apartments. The building is built in Australia's Melbourne. The 28-floor building is just 6.7 metres wide. The building was planned to have 40 floors at first, but the idea was later scrapped off. The building was built on the old Phoenix Hotel, which was famous among newspaper journalists in Melbourne. The tower was designed by Fender Katsalidis Architects.

Tregunter 3

The next on the list is Hong Kong’s Tregunter 3. The building is the fifth thinnest in the world and is reportedly Asia’s slimmest structure. The building is located in Hong Kong’s The Peak. It was designed by Rocco Yim Architects, and is the third tower in the Tregunter 'series’. The time gap between constructing the second Tregunter tower and the third Tregunter tower was 12 years. All three towers are residential buildings. Completed in 1993, the building is 66 floors long, with its top floor being 327 metres above sea level.

The tower was designed by Glancy Nicholls Architects. The building is being built in the middle of Birmingham, where it will reportedly provide a ‘breath-taking view’ and will be a ‘one-of-a-kind’. The building is reportedly ‘16 metres tall and only 9.5 metres wide’. The 36-storey pencil tower will also be UK’s ‘first super slender skyrise’, as per the ‘Glancynicholls’. Meanwhile, the inspiration behind the structure’s design, as per reports, is Birmingham’s ‘metal works industry’ and the ‘glass box’.
